Ingredients

  • 1 package frozen or fresh ravioli cheese-stuffed or meat-stuffed
  • 1 cup tomato sauce preferably seasoned
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping and layering
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil optional for greasing
  • to taste salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Baking dish or casserole dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Oven
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife

Method

  1. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce evenly at the bottom of the baking dish, then layer half of the ravioli on top, creating an even bed.
  2. Pour half of the remaining tomato sauce over the ravioli, then sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella on top. Repeat these layers with the remaining ravioli, sauce, and cheese.
  3. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top layer of cheese, then season with salt and pepper as desired. Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C).
  4. Bake uncovered for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown on top. The edges of the cheese should appear crispy and slightly browned.
  5. Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Observe the crispy cheese layers and the tender ravioli beneath, with bubbling sauce around the edges.
  6. Slice and serve the baked ravioli directly from the dish, ensuring each piece has a crispy cheese top and cheesy, saucy pasta inside.
