Cold Foam Topping

Cold foam is a light, airy layer of frothy milk that adds a creamy texture and visual appeal to cold beverages. It is made by frothing cold milk to create a fluffy, cloud-like consistency with a smooth appearance. The final foam sits atop drinks, offering a delicate, velvety finish that enhances aroma and presentation.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cold milk preferably whole milk for creaminess

Equipment

  • Milk frother or mini whisk
  • Glass or cup for frothing

Method

  1. Pour the cold milk into a glass or cup suitable for frothing.
  2. Activate your milk frother or use a mini whisk to vigorously froth the milk until it doubles in volume and develops a thick, velvety foam. You should hear a gentle hissing or see bubbles forming as it aerates.
  3. Pause for a moment to observe the foam— it should be creamy, dense, and holds soft peaks, resembling a fluffy cloud.
  4. Gently tap the frothing vessel on a surface to settle large bubbles and smooth out the foam's surface.
  5. Hold back the foam with a spoon or tilt the vessel to let the liquid milk pour out, leaving the fluffy foam to sit on top.
  6. Gently spoon the fluffy, cold foam onto the top of your prepared iced coffee or drink, creating a smooth, cloud-like layer.
  7. Finish by adding any desired toppings or flavorings on top of the foam, then serve immediately for a velvety, aesthetically pleasing beverage.

Notes

For best results, ensure the milk is very cold and froth immediately after frothing to maintain fluffiness. You can also flavor the milk before frothing with vanilla extract or sweeteners if desired.
