Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz cranberry liqueur adds tartness and festive color
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice brightens the drink with citrus aroma
  • 2 dashes herbal bitters cinnamon or clove preferred
  • 3 oz sparkling wine or soda for fizz and lightness
  • 1 small sprig fresh rosemary or thyme for garnish and aroma

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Chilled glassware
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and tools, and prepare your glassware by chilling it in the freezer for about 10 minutes to keep your cocktail refreshingly cold.
  2. Use the citrus juicer to extract fresh lemon juice, feeling the zest and aroma as you do so, then measure out the cranberry liqueur and bitters.
  3. Add the cranberry liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and herbal bitters into the cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker halfway with ice.
  4. Vigorously shake the mixture for about 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and frosty, and you see condensation forming.
  5. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into the chilled glass, capturing the vibrant red color and aromatic bubbles.
  6. Top off the drink with sparkling wine or soda, pouring gently to preserve the bubbles and create a lively fizz.
  7. Garnish with a small sprig of rosemary or thyme, placing it delicately on top for a festive touch and fragrant aroma.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy the bubbly, tart, and aromatic celebration of the season with friends or quiet reflection.

Notes

Adjust sweetness by adding a touch of simple syrup if desired. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute sparkling water and omit bitters.
